ESCONDIDO — The Associated Press reports that the intentional burn of the Escondido bomb house went as planned Dec. 9 without any major problems.
The home was ignited by remotely controlled devices and it quickly became engulfed in flames. Thick smoke rose into the sky as planned to avoid spreading toxic fumes.
Popping sounds heard during the burn were likely hand grenades and ammunition, according to officials.
It took approximately 30 minutes for the home to be completely destroyed.
A section of Interstate 15 was closed but reopened at about 12:30 p.m.
