COAST CITIES — You can now register for special emergency information to be sent to your cell phone, via Nixle alerts and advisories, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
For a cost of $40 a month to $250 a month, Nixle is a tool the Sheriff’s will use to keep citizens and communities informed about significant events, alerts and advisories. When dealing with a significant event impacting our cities, schools, communities, businesses etc., the Sheriff’s Communications Center will put out a Nixle alert or advisory, via the on-duty Sergeant.
Some examples include a crime that has just occurred with suspect information, a significant accident closing down a street or highway, a missing person, and more.
Anyone can register for Nixle. It immediately connects you to trusted, important information by text message, e-mail, and over the web. By registering, the registrant can get police/sheriff department alerts and advisories.
