The essence of leadership is to model behaviors expected of others. The fact that Dan Dalager is in noncompliance for his own real estate rental units, which he seemingly altered with full understanding about the current legal standards, when other Encinitas residents are targeted for violations which had occurred 20, 30, or 40 years ago on grandfathered properties, when Encinitas residents were not only allowed to create rental units, but were encouraged to do so, is unfair. Let’s have leaders who apply the same standards to themselves that are expected of other citizens in our community. The fact is that Dan Dalager has demonstrated an entire set of behaviors which are illegal for everyone else in this town, but which he feels entitled to break since he holds political office. Let’s have honest and hard working leaders like Teresa and Tony who are interested in representing us the residents of Encinitas, and are not in it to enrich themselves in a web of petty crimes, kickbacks and payoffs from builders and other special interests!

The Encinitas Code Enforcement did a comprehensive investigation into DAN DALAGER et al’s Duplex that it appears he has illegally rented as a TRIPLEX and the City ceased action after DAN’S wife wrote a letter stating their promise and intent to Convert to a legal duplex. No apparent follow-up by Encinitas Code Enforcement Staff. It appears from 700 forms filed with the FPPC by Dalager that he has continued to rent to three tenants and Mail is
being delivered, and that only the apt number for 657 3rd St. was taken down! Copies of this Viola-
tion were forwarded to City Manager PHIL COTTON. The Original process took approx. 8 months!

You are not alone in your request that Dan Dalager step down, Mr. Audet. I heard very compelling speeches at tonight’s Council meeting from 3 residents, who joined a chorus of others to ask for his resignation.

The terrible hit piece that he and Kristin Gaspar sent out about Teresa Barth, filled with lies and misrepresentations, shows that he not only does unethical things to others, but serves as a mentor and advisor for Ms. Gaspar on how to use her extensive, out-of-town funding. In the Encinitas Forum series, Ms. Gaspar was only slightly less divisive than Mr. Dalager.

I say that we are smart enough residents to see through these attacks and to know the difference between the leadership and comittment to this community shown by Teresa Barth and Tony Kranz, and the egotism and lack of credibility of Dan Dalager and Kristin Gaspar.
