This is another clear example of arrogant politicians, skewed priorities and incompetent government bureaucrats...it underscores the need to "throw the bums out". In this case, the CUSD Board refuses to spend a few thousand of our tax dollars to provide parents, students and teachers with reasonable assurance that they aren't putting themselves at undue risk of cancer by simply going to school. Yet, over the last 18 months, the CUSD Board has paid Latham-Watkins attorney Daniel Brunton nearly one-half million dollars, with hundreds of thousands more taxpayer dollars wasted on other consultants, in a vain and stubborn attempt to avoid fixing their flawed Cannon/College high school project (the CEQA lawsuit). And, by time the CEQA lawsuit finally gets to the judge, the outcome won't much matter because the CUSD has already been forced by the Petitioners and regulators to make most of the changes the lawsuits originally demanded. So once again we find that the CUSD Board would rather arrogantly dismiss legitimate concerns, divide the community, and waste taxpayer dollars on their own egos, than to simply do what's best for the parents, students and teachers. With this sort of self-serving politics and misguided "leadership", is it any wonder why our government can't balance budgets or deliver the quality of services we pay so dearly for? It's time for a fresh start with responsive professionals who truly appreciate their public service role and respect the people they work for.
