At at recent city council meeting (july, 2010) it was noted that 93% of Encinitas citizens support keeping the unique character of each of the 5 areas of Encinitas, Cardiff being one of these areas. How could stadium lighting on 5 multi use fields possibly be in keeping with Cardiff's character? If I wanted to live near mega lights, I would move to downtown San Diego closer to Petco park!

Anyone living within 1-2 miles of the Hall Property Park will be seriously impacted by stadium lighting up to 90 feet high over 44 acres!
This includes a substantial portion of Encinitas.

Councilman Dalager, when is the last time you walked the streets of Cardiff?

“Encinitas is filled with a lot of good decent people who are scared by a small group who spread misinformation,” Dalager said. “From day one we talked about the lights — eight years ago — it’s not something new.”

This is totally untrue and people are not scared by "a small group who spread misinformation". If you listen to THE PEOPLE, they love having a park for our kids but keep it in our neighborhood and forget ALL OF THE LIGHTS. There's enough daylight year 'round in Encinitas to support all our local kids and their sports.

Rebuttal to Comments: Lights planned for field at Hall property park
Coast News Article 7/2/10

“Mayor Dan Dalager disagrees. He has been working on City Council for eight years to move Hall property park plans forward through a failed lawsuit that objected to the park being built and continues to support park plans through community objections to field lights.”
Rebuttal: The courts favored the citizens verses the city in the law suit. The law suit was not about the park being built. No one objected to a park being built. It is true that Mayor Dalager will continue to support the building of the park with field lights in spite of the “community objections to field lights.”

“Encinitas is filled with a lot of good decent people who are scared by a small group who spread misinformation,” Dalager said.
Rebuttal: Encinitas is also filled with large group of decent people who are scared to have a change in their community character, quality of life, loss of their ocean views and reduced property values. What misinformation is Mr Dalager indicating is being spread?

“The meeting presented an overview of the light plan and allowed residents to ask questions.”
Rebuttal: The CPP meeting invitation included four items that were erroneous, unclear and misleading. (misinformation)
This meeting was to inform citizens of changes in the General Plan, Design Review Modification, Major use Permit, Coastal Development Permit, and Zoning Code Amendment. The citizens were told at the meeting that they could only ask questions to the athletic light representative and only questions about the lights.

”Phase II construction includes the installation of 22 poles and 144 fixtures to illuminate the fields. Lights will later be installed to light up the planned skate park and aquatic center. The hours that the lights will be on has not been determined.”
Rebuttal: The attendees were told that 34 athletic poles are planned up to ninety feet high and strobe lights on top of the poles may be required for aviation safety. Lights on till midnight? Maybe is would be wiser to build the park and see the impact to the community, before lights are considered.

“If we use 30-foot lights it will blind everyone for miles around,” Dalager said.
Rebuttal: No lights would not “blind everyone for miles around.”

“Taller lights go straight down.”
Rebuttal: The light manufacturer admitted that the light spillage would be equal to 80 full moons and did not know how far away you would have to be to be able to see stars. All of the photos shown by the light representative were from a sky view only, not as they would effect homeowners.

”The field lights will directly neighbor Vons shopping center and Interstate 5. “If you can’t have lights by the shopping center and freeway, where can you have them?” Dalager asked.”
Rebuttal: The field lights will also directly neighbor an entire residential community and obstruct ocean, sunset and horizon views of an entire hillside of homes east of I 5.

A depiction of what story poles would look like, photos from the meeting presentation of what the field lights would look like, photos of homes that will lose there oceans views and additional information are available at: www.Cardiffians.blogspot.com
