OCEANSIDE — Local television station KOCT was honored with six SCAN/NATOA Star awards June 3.
Star Awards recognize excellence in government programming in California and Nevada. KOCT won two first place awards in two separate categories: Documentary (Social) and Documentary (Profile); second place in the Magazine category; three third-place winners in the categories of Performing Arts, Public Safety and Sports Events.
A first-place award went to “Yesterday & Today,” Documentary (Profile) category; by Producer Bobbie Pawelski.
A first-place award went to “Dia de Los Muertos,” documentary (social) category; by Producers Veronica Andrews and Brandon McCray.
Second-place was given for “Inside Oceanside,” Magazine category; Producer Peter Bonscher.
Third-place was earned by “Library Concert Series, Fishtank Ensemble,” Performing Arts category; Producer Russell Ferguson. Another third prize was given to “Disaster Prep,” Public Safety category; Producer Julia Swain and for “Rancho Buena Vista vs. El Camino High School Varsity Basketball,” Sports Event category; Producer Jake Rush.
For Star Awards 2010, five judges viewed programs in over thirty-four categories. Entries are rated on content, creativity, and technical quality.
