As an ex-proofreader (twice in my varied career) i can obviously sympathize with u. But i hav come to the vew that 'correct' spelling as we knew it is no longer worth getting worked up about. English spelling is a mess, and doesnt deserve to get the attention it does, unless that attention is aimed at repairing and upgrading it.
Not only does its spelling irregularity cause much trauma among kids learning literacy, to the extent that many giv up on the task, but it has a lot of us, even good proofreaders, running to the dictionary to check spellings, when speakers of most other alfabetical languages occasionally use the dictionary, just for etymology and meanings.
Our spelling causes a lot of wasted time.
