Young man admits to fatal DUI accident

VISTA — A 21-year-old man pleaded guilty March 16 to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated relating to a fatal accident that killed his teenage passenger. Reyes Miranda, who was 20 at the time of the Nov. 8, 2009, accident, lost control of his Ford Mustang and crashed into a bus-stop shelter around 2 a.m. while traveling on East Vista Way near Mason road in Vista. His passenger, 17-year-old Gerardo Chacon of Vista, died at the scene as a result of blunt force trauma. Under his plea agreement, Miranda now faces a maximum of 16 months in prison. A sentencing date was scheduled for April 15.
