ENCINITAS — The weather promises to be temperate and Southern California beautiful again for this year’s 2009 Encinitas Holiday Parade ready to step off at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 5 heading south along Coast Highway 101 from D Street to J Street.
Festivities kick off with a Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5 p.m. in the Lumberyard shopping center courtyard on Coast Highway 101.
Each year has a special theme and this year’s theme is “Season’s GreeNings,” celebrating all things environmental. Expect to see parade entries going all out, trying to outdo each other to be the most environmentally responsible, recyclable or reusable entry. Judging categories this year include Most Environmentally Beautiful, Most Unusual Use of Recycled Material and Best Use of Alternative Energy.
The streets fill with youngsters from every corner of the coastal community, decked in every kind of holiday flair, including their bikes and scooters. Troops of Scouts, dance teams and representatives from area schools fill the streets and their friends and families fill the sidelines cheering them on.
Santa Claus, beauty queens, area service clubs, churches and local businesses decorate their own floats and join the fun.
Bring your family and friends to watch as nearly 100 entries make their way down the parade route. Call (760) 633-2740 for general parade information.
