As usual, the pervs get protection. My daughter was also in proximity to this teacher. Instead of engaging in gossip, I asked a school official and was given a vague answer about this teacher took personal leave and had “privacy” rights. I only asked months after he left – hearing a comment “here & there”. This should have been public – a molester in the midst of children – and he needs the protection…on second thought…yes, he does!

Would be interested in knowing how principal Robert Devich, if he wasn’t employed by CUSD but was purely the father of a now second grader at Pacific Rim, would expect a situation like Mr. Firth’s handled? Any different from how it has?

cusdparent: “Laws” are often just pieces of human made ignorance (!) multiplied to a ridiculous degree. There is never a valid excuse to ignore the greater needs of personhood and responsibility as CUSD decides to do. You gotta have spunk! How much is not coming out on this or other matters? Believe me, had I found out the exact details on Ray while still working happily at PacRim, you’d still have found me yelling from the mountain top — “laws,” job security, etc. be damned.

Anyway… off my soapbox for now. It saddens me to learn of your family’s involvement here, but I echo your thanks to The Coast News.

As a parent of one of the victims in the case I owe a thank you to The Coast News for covering this. We learned of what happened after reading the original article and asking our child about it. I am disgusted with the laws that force the school to protect the rights of animals like this and keep the parents in the dark for years after something like this has happened.

And it gets even better for CUSD! Amazing that a newspaper — and a free one at that — can stay on top of things for the benefit of the people more so than the actual district.
