Mayor’s choice winner Tom Philippbar of San Clemente with his trophy and 1949 Dodge Power Wagon (originally a NYFD truck), is flanked by Encinitas Mayor Maggie Houlihan, left and Encinitas Councilwoman Theresa Barth at the Sept. 19 Wavecrest Woodie event. The gathering of wooden-bodied automobiles also draws vintage longboards displayed with the Woodies at Moonlight State Beach in Encinitas. Trophies are presented for Best Wood, Best ‘60s Surfer Woodie, Best Town & Country, Best License Plate, Best Hot Rod, Longest Distance Driven, Hard Luck and People’s Choice.
