VISTA — “Tributes & Traditions: A Photographic Essay” by Winifred Meiser will be on display at the Vista Library through Sept. 30. The purpose of this exhibition is to acknowledge the local people who organize, participate in, and attend these traditional ceremonies and to inform our next generation of the history and significance of these customs.
Most of the photographs were taken during this year’s Memorial Day ceremony at the Vista Wal-Mart on May 23. A display of books on legendary and historical heroes and a list of additional available books augment the exhibit.
The photographs provide an opportunity to view and share the history of these customs with our next generation, as well as recognize the American Heroes Tribute organization whose displays have become part of the modern ceremonies.
There are also photos of and brief information regarding topics such as flying the U.S. flag at half-mast, and the symbolism of the POW/MIA table, with links to Web sites to learn more about these subjects.
The Vista Library is located at 700 Eucalyptus Ave.
