Bird napping hits Quail Botanical Gardens

ENCINITAS — An umbrella cockatoo was reported stolen from an exhibit at Quail Botanical Gardens the afternoon of Aug. 1. The bird’s name is Benji, and he is micro-chipped and wearing a leg band from Texas.
Umbrella cockatoos are white birds with gray beaks, and feature a large crest on the top of its head when surprised. A large reward is being offered. If you should notice anything suspicious, contact Robin Hermann at (760) 634-1431 or Lillian Cox at (760) 436-0756.
