CARLSBAD — The city’s Community Emergency Response Team is looking for new, interested volunteer members.
Training for the eight-week Carlsbad CERT volunteer course will be conducted from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday evenings beginning June 15. Training will be held at the Carlsbad Safety Center, 2560 Orion Way. Interested volunteers may apply at www.volunteerincarlsbad.net and must attend a volunteer orientation at 7 p.m. June 1 at the Safety Center.
CERT volunteers provide emergency preparedness and response assistance to their neighbors and community. Volunteers receive 24 hours of training, including fire safety, disaster medical operations plus light search and rescue.
“CERT volunteers play an essential part in a city’s emergency assistance to members of the community,” said David Harrison, the city’s emergency preparedness coordinator. “We are excited about launching this new program which will benefit city residents in times of emergency, like the wildfires we see in Southern California each year.”
