VISTA — It wasn’t music that a 19th century adobe dweller would recognize, but it was Latin all the same.
Vista’s Rancho Buena Vista Adobe celebrated its 20th anniversary of becoming a city-run facility with a Cinco de Mayo gala featuring food, drink, and the flamenco/jazz stylings of the Peter Pupping quartet May 3. Pupping is the son of two docents at the Adobe. He was joined by MiraCosta College guitar instructor Eric Foster.
The 163-year-old adobe is a fixture of downtown Vista, hosting a variety of educational programs for children and adults alike. The adobe is also the site of a well-attended bluegrass fundraiser every July.
This year, according to Special Events Chair Mary Gafney, the adobe docents thought it would be appropriate to honor its Hispanic ancestry with its first ever Cinco de Mayo event. The community apparently agreed, with more than 100 guests packing the Adobe grounds. Proceeds from ticket sales will go toward all aspects of adobe maintenance including insurance, security and new furnishings.
The Rancho Buena Vista Adobe, located at 640 Alta Vista Drive, is open year-round for tours Thursday through Saturday. More information can
