CARLSBAD — A 45-year-old man charged with brutally murdering his parents was in a Vista courtroom April 21 for his second arraignment hearing.
Dennis Brian Gluck pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder with the allegation that he used a weapon, in this case a machete, to brutally murder his parents. Jean and Harry Gluck, 77 and 90, respectively, were found dead in their home in the 2700 block of Chestnut Avenue on Jan. 18.
At the hearing Gluck requested a Marsden hearing, which is a hearing to see if the defendant has legal cause to have a new attorney appointed, but Judge Daniel Goldstein denied his request. At the end of his April 8 preliminary hearing, Gluck blurted out to Judge Timothy Casserly that he had wanted a new attorney.
Because a special circumstance is attached to the murder charges, Gluck could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty if convicted. He remains in custody without bail.
His next scheduled court appearance is a May 19 readiness conference. His trial is set for mid-September.
