Fundraiser set to benefit local family

SAN MARCOS — The Ladies Auxillary Post 3795, of San Marcos, is hosting a fundraiser to help the Nelson family purchase a wheelchair accessible van. On May 24, 2008, Daniel Nelson was hit by a car. He fell off of his skateboard and went into the street to retrieve it. He suffered a severe traumatic brain Injury. At the time of discharge, his parents were told that his prognosis was poor and that the chances of him ever regaining self-sufficiency were unlikely. He is in a wheelchair unable to move anything purposefully except for his right hand. His parents must manually lift him into a car seat. Daniel has many medical appointments and therapies that are required to recover.
The fundraiser will begin at 4 p.m. March 28 at VFW Post 3795, located at 212 W. Mission Road in San Marcos. A $10 donation is asked. Read more about Daniel’s story at http://caringbridge.org/visit/danielnelson.
