VISTA — The squeal of tires and a loud crash brought workers out of their Main Street shops just before 5 p.m. March 11.
They found a blue sedan, its right tire exploded and its front end smashed, on the landscaping in front of Hennessey’s. It had crashed into the Main Street Clock Tower, which tipped slightly as a result, witnesses reported.
According to the police report, driver Miles Holiday, 19, had run the stop sign at the corner of North Indiana Avenue and Main Street, crashed into a concrete curb, and then into the tower.
Bleeding profusely from his forehead, Holiday left his 16-year-old female companion in the car dazed and in tears, the report said.
Holiday sprinted up the street when police began pursuit, according to the police report. He was caught and charged with DUI causing injuries, felony hit and run and child endangerment. Holiday was booked at the Vista Detention Facility.
“The fact that he’s obviously an adult and she’s underaged — the chances of him bailing out are slim,” Lt. Mike McClain said.
