RANCHO SANTA FE — Once a month, fathers are asked to join their children for lunch and recess at Horizon Prep.
It’s a fun day that gives Dad a great excuse to leave work for a short period of time and share a sack lunch with his children.
Jan. 29 was such a “Dad’s Day,” and if Dad wasn’t available there were many grandpas willing to step in and lend a helping hand. After lunch, the playground was filled with fathers who helped supervise a game of soccer or push a swing as only a father can.
“I love it, it’s great fun,” said Brad Remy, who was sharing a special lunch with his daughter Cici.
Several fathers were also celebrating the success of Spelling Bee winners.
At the recent ACSI District I Spelling Bee competition, Horizon Prep’s Max Baloun won first place. Horizon Prep had 13 students competing against 130 students from 11 different schools.
Max, a fifth-grader in Mrs. Roy’s class, won the event by successfully spelling “renitent.”
“It was nerve-wracking, but definitely worth it,” Max said.
In addition to Max’s first place win, fourth-grader Kyra Hendrickson placed second and first-grader Kylie Wilbor placed fourth.
Needless to say, their fathers were proud, as was the school they represented.
