OCEANSIDE — One thousand attendees were expected to attend this year’s Community Christmas Festival on Dec. 20, the same amount that showed up last year.
The mammoth Christmas celebration is put on by neighboring churches Grace Chapel of the Coast and Calvary Chapel Living Hope.
Free festivities included crafts, games and live music. “We do this every year for Christmas,” Pastor Jose Gutierrez, Grace Chapel of the Coast, said. “Just to show the love of Jesus and get connected with the community and the true spirit of Christmas, the birth of Christ.”
The Community Christmas Festival has been held for the past three years. An event highlight this year was the pig roast, but the focus every year is sharing good will with neighborhood children.
“In this neighborhood some of the kids aren’t having a Christmas,” Gutierrez said.
To help spread a bit of Christmas joy, the festival is packed with kid-oriented fun like face painting, pony rides and bounce houses. “At Christmas, children come first,” Gutierrez said.
