SAN MARCOS — Raymond J. Lucia was honored at the Palomar College Black Tie Gala on Nov. 15 for being an exemplary graduate of Palomar College. The Presidents Associates presented the awards to three special individuals who have served Palomar College and the surrounding community with distinction.
Lucia, a former high school teacher, is now the president and founder of Raymond J. Lucia Companies, Inc., one of the largest independent financial planning firms in the country. His popular radio show, “The Ray Lucia Show,” airs in more than 60 markets nationwide. Palomar College honored Lucia for excelling in all aspects of his life, and giving back to his community through his remarkable success as an independent financial planner.
“It was an honor to be recognized at the annual gala” Lucia said. “I had the opportunity to meet and speak with several current students as well as many alumni who share my loyalty to Palomar. I was flattered to have the opportunity to be a part of the night, and I consider myself fortunate to have such strong ties with my alma mater.”
A slideshow was played which featured the honored guests. The video highlighted Lucia’s many successes as well as touching on his career as the standout quarterback in his football days at Palomar.
The theme of the 2008 event was “Palomar Celebrates Community” and was held at the Rancho Bernardo Inn in the Grand Aragon Ballroom. Guests, who supported the fundraiser at $250 per person, celebrated by enjoying a gourmet dinner, student entertainment, live and silent auctions, casino action, and the inaugural Comet Awards. This annual fundraiser provides major support to Palomar College students and programs. Because of the gala, many students receive scholarships and book grants that help them as they improve their lives through college education.
