NORTH COUNTY — The San Diego Better Business Bureau, or BBB, is offering a total of $5,000 in cash scholarships to high school juniors or seniors attending an accredited high school in San Diego County who are willing to write a 400-word essay on the importance of marketplace ethics and integrity in the community. There is no cost to submit an essay. Deadline for submission is at 5 p.m. on Oct. 27. Essays can be submitted via mail, fax or e-mail.
The BBB’s scholarship program, sponsored by Sycuan Resort & Casino, is part of the BBB’s 2008 Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics. This is the 11th annual program that honors companies and nonprofits for demonstrating ethical business practices. The essays should include viewpoints and examples of how marketplace ethics involves integrity, honesty and civility in THE community. Judges will evaluate the essays based on relevance to the theme, readability and clarity, and spelling and grammar. Five high school students who write outstanding essays will be awarded with cash scholarships of $1,500, $1,250, $1,000, $750 and $500. Recipients must be available to attend the Torch Awards presentation luncheon on Dec. 9 at the Town and Country Resort Hotel in Mission Valley. An application form and more details are available at www.bbb.org, look for “Announcements,” then click “2008 Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics.”
